Sunday, May 10, 5:30pm: Second Sunday Dinner at Sole Mio, 8794 Boynton Beach Blvd., in the Canyon Town Center, (561-740-4044, https://solemiokitchenbar.com/). Yes, we know it's Mother's Day -- bring your mom! Enjoy elevated Italian Dining in a village-like setting, a very walkable area and parking is easy. The menu lists the usual pasta, risotto, pizza, seafood, chicken, veal, etc. What makes this place better than average is its kitchen and caring wait staff. We've been there before when it was Nicoletta's and had a wonderful time. From the menu: Avocado Caprese Nest, Salmon Tartare, Rustic Focaccia, Tuscan Pear Salad, Gnocchi al Pesto e Burrata, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Lobster Ravioli, Truffle Funghi Pizza, Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza, Fig Jam & Bacon Pizza. Yum! RSVP to Elissa (elissa12@bellsouth.net) or on Meetup by Saturday, May 9 at noon. |

Saturday, May 16, 5p: North County Dinner at Talk:house restaurant. We are meeting on a Saturday for a change to try an interesting restaurant that's closed on Sundays. We will meet Saturday, May 16th at 5:00 p.m. Since it is called Talk:house, might we expect the acoustics to be above par? The menu sounds very interesting as well. Address is 514 NW Dixie Highway, Stuart. Please RSVP by May 15th which is Endangered Species Day. If you have a favorite endangered or protected species please feel free to discuss it when we meet. Please RSVP on Meetup or by text to my phone number : 772 -212 -6268. (Laura B.) |

Thursday, May 21, 6 pm: The (M)any Books Book Club meets for another far-reaching, multidimensional conversation about...books! First, recommendations for May include: "Paper Girl: A Memoir of Home and Family in a Fractured America" by Beth Macy. One of Barack Obama's favorite books, this is the story of a young girl delivering the daily newspaper in the 1970s and 1980s and watching her hometown of Urbana, Ohio, transform from middle class comfort to a hardened conspiracy-ridden community. Her memoir, by taking us into the heart of one place, brings into focus our most urgent set of national issues. The next selection, "The Endling" by Maria Riva, takes us to eastern Europe before 2022 and the growing menace of Russian troops on Ukraine's border. It's the tale of an eccentric scientist breeding rare snails crosses paths with sisters posing as members of the marriage industry to find their activist mother. As Russia invades, they embark on a wild journey with kidnapped bachelors and a last-of-its-kind snail. This darkly comic novel explores survival, love, and hope in times of encroaching darkness. You may ask, "What is an Endling?" It's the last known individual of a species whose death marks the extinction of that species. The book is not just about snail-endlings, but perhaps human-endlings too. Now, reactions from last month's meeting: One reader thought "Competitive Sensemaking" might be one of those books you keep for yourself because the ideas can be referred to again and again. Let us know what you think of the books mentioned. Or read/discuss/recommend your faves, any genre, books, even p*rn. We'll listen. Won't your join us and add your suggestions? Here's a challenge - Where do you draw the line - what won't you read? We'd like to know! Meeting ID: 929 988 4617. Passcode: happy (Zoom link). Please RSVP to Elissa Rudolph at elissa12@bellsouth.net or on Meetup. |
