Thursday, Mar. 19, 6 pm: The (M)any Books Book Club meets to discuss...many books! March recommendations include: "My Friends" by Frederik Backman, excellent story about love, enduring friendship and how art changes lives. Backman is the Swedish author of "A Man Called Ove" ("A Man Called Otto," i.e., Tom Hanks) whose humor is irresistible; "Declaration: The Story of American Independence" by local celebrity-author, Robert P. Watson, should be required reading for any citizen curious about America's unique beginnings. Did you know Ben Franklin edited the Declaration removing/clarifying Thomas Jefferson's superfluous verbiage? Did you know there's a crucial female name on the Declaration without which it never would have been published for all citizens to read? Another compelling non-fiction read: "Competitive Sensemaking: An Upgrade to Common Sense on Disagreement" by John Nerst. This book asks the questions -- Why don't we agree on anything anymore? Why do we draw such different conclusions from the same information? Where has civil public debate gone? "Theft of Fire" by Devon Eriksen, a sci-fi adventure, is Book 1 of the Orbital Space series. Book 2 is highly anticipated by our reader, which is the best possible recommendation. Another NF selection, "Foolproof: Why Misinformation Infects Our Minds and How to Build Immunity" by Sander van der Linden, discusses how to arm yourself against half-truths and propaganda, a must-read in today's real/not real world. Speaking of lies, another of our readers suggested, "The Little Liar" by Mitch Albom, an "unforgettable work of WW II historical fiction about truth and lies set during the Holocaust," narrated by an 11-year-old Greek boy. As you can see, we read/discuss/recommend all types of books, for all types of readers. Won't your join us and add your suggestions? Where do you draw the line - what won't you read? We'd like to know! Meeting ID: 929 988 4617. Passcode: happy (Zoom link). Please RSVP to Elissa Rudolph at elissa12@bellsouth.net or on Meetup.
