Thursday, May 14, 6pm: Virtual Happy Hour to Discuss Books. Discussion on April's Zoom book selections centered on Velocity, by Dean Koontz - a challenge to figure out "who done it" through a complex plot with a surprise ending - and Of Time and Turtles, by Sy Montgomery - a naturalist's immersion the world of turtles in New England that brought out more than I thought I'd ever learn about turtles. Proposals for the May discussion are Misbelief: What Makes Rational People Do Irrational Things, by Dan Ariely, which explores the current spreading of misinformation online and in the press; The Passenger, by Patrick A. Davis, about the crash of a military jet carrying just one passenger - the President's brother; and You Dreamed of Empires, by Alvero Enrigues, a translation from the Spanish fiction about the meeting of Cortez and Montezuma, how the two cultures clash, and the role of horses in the exchange. |

Wednesday, May 22, 5:30pm: Moveable Feast in West Palm Beach at Stresa Italian Restaurant, 2062 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd, West Palm Beach. A traditional Italian restaurant serving traditional Italian cuisine (plus subs, etc.) for 20-some years, formerly on Okeechobee Blvd and now in a smallish mall near I-95. Their focus is on the use of high-quality ingredients and maintaining the old standards - "Benvenuti al nostro tavolo di famiglia". I haven't yet been there for dinner, but the lunch menu offers modest prices, and the Cappellini Bella Napoli is delicious. RSVP on Meetup or to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-352-9245. |
