Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Tuesday, Aug. 1, 5:15 pm: Happy Hour in Boca Raton at Serena Pastifico, 301 Plaza Real, Boca Raton. Serena Pastificio in Mizner Park is a sophisticated/casual spot that now has an Ora Sociale weekdays, 3:00 to 6:00 -- a foodie Happy Hour featuring deals on popular dishes. Tuesdays are also Ladies' Nights 3:00-close, which includes $3 signature cocktails in the bar, lounge, and patio area. Maybe stay on for herb-marinated branzino or veal Milanese. Please RSVP on Meetup or to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-352-9245.

[Palm Beach]

Wednesday, Aug. 9, noon: Lunch Bunch in Boynton Beach at Pho 79 IV, 1899 N Congress Ave #5, Boynton Beach. Pho 79 is a largish restaurant next to a CVS in a mall at Gateway Blvd and N. Congress. Pho, vermicelli dishes, and dozens of other Viet Namese staples like banh mi are served with milk teas in an expansive setting. And huge portions! Please RSVP on Meetup or to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-352-9245.

[Palm Beach]

Sunday, Aug. 13, 5:30pm: Second Sunday Dinner at (appropriately) the Back Home Restaurant in Greenacres, 4616 S. Jog Rd., 561-459-4805 (https://www.backhomeflorida.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Back-Home-Menu.pdf). Nostalgic fare includes Homemade Chicken Soup, Grannie's Pasta a la Crema and Grannie's Breaded Chicken, Homemade Cheese Dip, Lemon Potatoes, and more. RSVP on Meetup or to Elissa Rudolph (elissa12@bellsouth.net or 561-703-9898) by Saturday at noon August 12.

[Palm Beach]

Thursday, Aug. 17, 6:00pm: Virtual Happy Hour to Discuss Books. Well, the Zoom book discussions are coming along nicely. The main topics at the July meeting were Wish You Were Here (Jodi Picoult) and No Country for Old Men (Cormac McCarthy). Our choices for August are Remarkably Bright Creatures (Shelby Van Pelt) - which is about an octopus - and The Road (another by Cormac McCarthy). See more in my In Any Event column. You're welcome to join in on our Zoom Happy Hour. Meeting ID: 858 0295 0276, Passcode: happy (Zoom link). RSVP on Meetup or to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or at 561-352-9245.

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 5:30pm: Movable Feast in West Palm Beach at Joy Noodles and Asian Cuisine, 2200 S Dixie Hwy, W Palm Beach. We had a lot of Lunch Bunches here with its "bold flavors of the East", so let's have dinner in its bright red building on Dixie Hwy. Popular appetizers include fritters like those sold by street-food vendors in a number of countries and Javanese chicken. Pan-Asian dinner choices range through Kaeng Pa curry, seafood hot pot, Hong Kong noodles, and chicken with Khmer sauce. Please RSVP on Meetup or to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-352-9245.

[Palm Beach]

Wednesday, Aug. 30, 4:30 pm: Happy Hour in Palm Beach Gardens at Prosecco Café--Scratch Kitchen & Bake Shop, 4580 PGA Blvd, PB Gardens. I missed the dinner at Prosecco last November (broke my elbow the previous week!), so let's revisit it for their Happy Hour. Their 3:00-5:00 is very early for us, but their small plates are great, and it's worth staying on for dinner in this Italian bistro with entree salads, grouper with mango salsa, and other imaginative choices. They also have beautiful bakery items, baked in house (take some home if you're too full). Please RSVP on Meetup or to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-352-9245.
