Friday, May 5 at 7pm: First Friday Dinner at Payathai Asian Bistro, 5879 South Congress Ave., Atlantis (Lantana, NW corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave.). Obviously, this is a Thai restaurant. If you choose, the food can be spicy. Service is good and prices are reasonable. The place has limited space, so it's important that you RSVP to Barry at 561-964-4360, barrykaras7314@comcast.net, or through the Meetup. |

Sunday, May 7 at 5:30pm: Meet for the Palm Beach Area Mensa First Sunday dinner at Atlantis Grill & Bar, 5805 S Congress Ave, Shoppes of Atlantis, Lake Worth, 561-641-3330. We are having a speaker, so this dinner event has been moved to a location with a back room (Palm Springs Pizza could not accommodate us). Al Hallonquist will talk to us about "Situational Awareness." He has been published in Air & Space magazine twice, and is currently working on a book about a manned space program cancelled in 1966 and co-authored a biography of a famous test pilot. He has been published in other space and aviation magazines. How does this relate to Mystery Writing? With his career in law enforcement encompassing patrol, field training officer, firearms instructor, police academy instructor, motorcycle officer, detective, homicide investigator, crime scene, supervision and hostage negotiation, he lectures at Sleuthfest, subjects have included CSI: Fact of Fiction and Hostage Negotiations. He also consults with many mystery authors, and has ended up as characters in some of the books! We've been to this restaurant before - lots of different meals to choose from. See their website (http://www.atlantisgrillandbar.com/) RSVP by May 6, to Elissa (elissa12@bellsouth.net) or through MeetUp. |

Thursday, May 11 at noon: Lunch Bunch at Mel's Way, 3536 Via Poinciana, Lake Worth. This restaurant in the clubhouse at Poinciana Country Club has a nice, casual atmosphere and great prices for their lunch specials. The Poinciana Club is also a condo complex entered from Lake Worth Road a little west of its intersection with Jog Road. The clubhouse is some 8-10 buildings along Via Poinciana from the main entrance. RSVP required: Amy Shaughnessy (aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-964-3283) (See Meetup.) |

Tuesday, May 15 at 5:45pm: Movable Feast at La Fontana Pizzeria, Bar & Ristorante, 1201 U.S. 1, North Palm Beach. I've been planning to go back to this restaurant for its "Italian classics with a Mediterranean twist". The food is good and plentiful, and the atmosphere is warm. As long as you order before 6:00, there's a $19.95 Early Bird menu - three courses plus a glass of house wine. The "twist", by the way, embraces Greek and Balkan dishes, including special sausages and goulash. Located in Crystal Tree Plaza - look for the fountain in front of the restaurant. RSVP required: Amy Shaughnessy (aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-964-3283) (See Meetup.) |

Saturday, May 20 at 11am: ExComm Meeting at Mike Yamrick's home, 9860-B Cassia Tree Way, Boynton Beach. Next meetings Aug. 12 and Nov. 11. (See Meetup) |

Sunday, May 21 at noon: Brunch at Le Rendez-Vous, 221 Datura Street, West Palm Beach. This small downtown WPB bistro defines itself as a "trendy Parisian restaurant" - however, the place is actually comfy and welcoming, with simple authentic French fare. I've been there at Happy Hour several times and enjoyed the casual atmosphere. The brunch menu sounds good - crepes, baguette sandwiches, and quiches, of course. RSVP required: Amy Shaughnessy (aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-964-3283) (See Meetup.) |

Tuesday, May 30 at 5:30pm: Happy Hour at Patio Tapas and Beer, 205 Se 1st Ave, Boca Raton. A casual indoor/outdoor bistro bar specializing in "montaditos", appetizer-sized servings of little sandwiches - ham, salmon, pan con tomate. In addition to wine and an array of beers, they have a very satisfying sangria. RSVP: Amy Shaughnessy (aesdth@yahoo.com or 561-964-3283) (See Meetup.) |
