Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Saturday, Oct. 1 at 8-10pm: Concert & Party at Brewhouse Gallery, 720 Park Avenue, Lake Park. The folk-blues-rock duo Remerge, a pair of local women in their 50s, have teamed up to follow youthful dreams toward rock stardom. A late start is better than no start at all, so come out to listen and cheer them on at a debut party for their CD. Brewhouse serves craft beers and wine and some very casual food; parking lot along the strip in central Lake Park. (See Meetup.)

[Palm Beach]

Tuesday, Oct. 4 at noon: Lunch Bunch at Restaurant Agora, 2505 N Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach. Also known as Agora Mediterranean Kitchen, with specialty dishes from Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, and almost anywhere else around the Mediterranean; we've met here before. This month I'm choosing a couple of places in Northwood as the neighborhood applies for Florida Main Street status.  Parking available on the side streets off Dixie. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or Meetup.)

[Palm Beach]

Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6:30pm: Magnificent Mensa Scribes meets at Rainberry Bay Clubhouse, Lake Ida Road, Delray Beach. Enjoy the literary vibes of the Magnificent Mensa Scribes. Are you a writer or aspire to be one? Join our Mensan Extraordinaire Prudy Taylor Board and the Scribes to hone your skills and to learn about getting published. For info, contact prudytaylorboard@att.net. (See Meetup.)

[Palm Beach]

Friday, Oct. 7 at 7pm: First Friday Dinner at Payathai Asian Bistro, 5879 South Congress Ave., Atlantis (Lantana, NW corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave.). Obviously, this is a Thai restaurant. If you choose, the food can be spicy.  Service is good and prices are reasonable. The place has limited space, so it's important that you RSVP to Barry at 561-964-4360, barrykaras7314@comcast.net,  or through the Meetup.

[Palm Beach]

Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2pm: Meet at the Ritter Art Gallery for a tour-- A.E. Backus and Florida's Highwaymen: History, Commerce and Art at FAU's Ritter Art Gallery, FAU Campus (AG-39), off Glades Rd. in Boca Raton. Elissa Rudolph will lead a tour of the 60 plus paintings of which half are Backus' and half painted by the Highwaymen. If you do not know much about Florida's unique Highwaymen artists and their relationship with "Beanie" Backus, then this exhibit will help you appreciate their contribution to art and history. Check out the location and more about the exhibit at http://www.fau.edu/galleries/backus_highwaymen.php. Note the evening offerings too, especially the one on September 29 at 7 p.m. Gary Monroe wrote the essential Highwaymen book in 2001 and continues his research today. [Palm Beach]

Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6pm: Movable Feast at Sunset Bar & Grill, 2500 Broadway, West Palm Beach. Unique, artsy-kitschy decor in Northwood; good food, friendly atmosphere, and a great price at $20.16 for the Sunset menu. Outdoor dining if the weather is suitable, or booths and tables inside (probably my choice). Noted for its steaks and tempting desserts. Street parking is usually easy enough to find. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or see Meetup.)

[Palm Beach]

Sunday, Oct. 16 at 5pm: A South North County Gathering in Jupiter at Food Shack, 103 S US Highway 1, Jupiter. Rated No. 1 restaurant in Jupiter, the menu looks interesting.  https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34335-d403466-Reviews-Food_Shack-Jupiter_Florida.html and, if we get a large enough group, I'll request a private room away from the maddening crowd. (See Meetup.)

Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30pm: Magnificent Mensa Scribes meets at Rainberry Bay Clubhouse, Lake Ida Road, Delray Beach.

Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5-7pm: New Members Welcome Party at Raindancer Steak House, 2300 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, West Palm Beach, a classic steakhouse restaurant (also offering chicken, seafood, vegetarian fare) with private dining rooms. We've scheduled this event so that new members can get to know us - and established members can come to meet them. Selections from Raindancer's Sunset Menu will be complimentary for our new members, who will receive invitations from Membership Chair Brian Johnson. The same menu will be available to established members at $19.95 plus tax and tip. Raindancer is about a mile west of I-95 near the intersection of Okeechobee and PB Lakes Boulevards; parking in their lot. (See Meetup.)
