Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Friday, Sept. 2 at 7pm: First Friday Dinner at Payathai Asian Bistro, 5879 South Congress Ave., Atlantis (Lantana, NW corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave.). Obviously, this is a Thai restaurant. If you choose, the food can be spicy.  Service is good and prices are reasonable. The place has limited space, so it's important that you RSVP to Barry at 561-964-4360, barrykaras7314@comcast.net,  or through the Meetup.

[Palm Beach]

Tuesday, Sept. 6 at noon: West Palm Beach Lunch at Raindancer Steak House, 2300 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, West Palm Beach. I know Raindancer mostly for Happy Hour, but they have a two-course Power Lunch special for $14.95, so I want to give it a try.  The first course is soup (one of which is lobster bisque) or salad and the main courses are fish and chips, BLT with fries, steak Caesar salad, or salmon.  The restaurant (with lots of parking) is on PB Lakes Blvd just north of Okeechobee. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or Meetup.)

Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6:30pm: Magnificent Mensa Scribes meets at the clubhouse where Prudy Taylor Board lives in Rainberry Bay, Delray Beach. For directions, interested members should call Prudy at 561-702-6138 or email her at prudytaylorboard@att.net. Bring your writing so everyone can critique it... don't worry, you get to critique everybody else's writing too. Afterwards, if anyone wants to, we can get something to eat.

Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1pm: Family Activity (Broward Mensa, but in our territory) -- Schoolhouse Children's Museum in Boynton Beach. Come to "where learning is an adventure" at 129 E Ocean Ave. in Boynton Beach. There are two floors of hands-on exhibits and an upbeat, kid-friendly 10-minute video about the area's local history. Admission is adults $5.00, children $4.00. Exit I-95 at Boynton Beach Blvd. Travel east ¼ mile to Seacrest Blvd. Turn right (south) and go two blocks. Turn left (east) on Ocean Ave. Oh, and there is Kids' Kingdom Playground across the street if you need some more active play. RSVP appreciated to Micki at 954-345-1688 or email to m.hawn@aol.com. Walk-ins welcome. Family friendly. www.schoolhousemuseum.org.

Friday, Sept. 16 at 6pm: Movable Feast at 53rd Street Grille & Bar, 661 NW 53rd Street, Boca Raton. A restaurant within Boca's Embassy Suites Hotel in the tropical atrium, but not just a hotel restaurant. Interesting array of appetizers and soups, and "comfort food" entrees (meatloaf, mac & cheese) as well as steaks and wide choice of seafood. The desserts include"Obnoxious Chocolate Cake", which begs to be tried. It's near I-95, with plenty of parking. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or see Meetup.)

Sunday, Sept. 18 at 5pm: Gather at Lola's Seafood Eatery, 860 SW Federal Hwy, Stuart.Recently we had a tasty experience here. Certainly I was delighted with the bam bam shrimp. (See Meetup.)

Tuesday, Sept. 20 at noon: PB Bonus Lunch at Leopard Lounge in the Chesterfield Hotel, 363 Cocoanut Row, Palm Beach. Special price for September: $20 for a three-course lunch at the iconic Chesterfield Hotel. First-course choices include Caesar salad and the traditional shrimp cocktail. Entree choices: ham on brioche, chicken schnitzel, or Cobb salad.
