Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30pm: Magnificent Mensa Scribes resume their meetings in a new location, the Clubhouse of High Point of Delray West Sec. 1, 5230 Lakefront Blvd., Delray Beach (where Elissa lives).Call Prudy for details, 561-702-6138. Bring your writing so everyone can critique it... don't worry, you get to critique everybody else's writing too. Afterwards, if anyone wants to, we can get something to eat.

Friday, May 6 at 7pm: First Friday Dinner, at Payathai Asian Bistro, 5879 South Congress Ave., Atlantis (Lantana, NW corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave.). Thai food is different -- and can be spicy. Service is good and prices are reasonable. The place has limited space, so it's important that you RSVP to Barry at 561-964-4360, barrykaras7314@comcast.net,  or through the Meetup.

[Palm Beach]

Wednesday, May 11 at noon: Lunch Bunch at at Callaro's, 717 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth. I'm doing a Lake Worth spotlight again this month and Callaro's was a good choice last time, so we'll try it again for their lunch specials. Parking should be easy on the street or in one of the free city lots. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or see Meetup.)

Sunday, May 15 at 5:30pm: Second Sunday Dinner (well, actually 3rd this month), at ABC Chinese Restaurant, 1919 West Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach. Cuisine: Szechuan, Cantonese, Hong Kong Dim Sum. http://www.abcchineserestaurant.com/ (954) 421-8720 or (954)421-8030. Typical Review: Pretty good. The atmosphere like most places like this is average, but who cares? It's about the food. The food here is pretty damn good. Save your money and get the lunch or dinner combo that comes with the egg roll/rice etc. Prices are reasonable for most items... RSVP to timhunter@juno.com OR through the Palm Beach Mensa's Meetup site.

Wednesday, May 18 at 6:30pm: Magnificent Mensa Scribes at the Clubhouse of High Point of Delray West Sec.

Sunday, May 15 at noon: Sunday Buffet at Seminole Inn, 15885 SW Warfield Blvd, Indiantown. It's been a couple of years or so since we've enjoyed the sumptuous brunch offerings at Seminole Inn. Offerings range from omelets to sliced roasts to veggies and desserts. Price quoted to me including tax is $22. This is a historical old Florida style building. Visitors are welcome to tour the building at their leisure. Restaurant phone number is 772 597 3777. http://www.seminoleinn.com/ RSVP by May 11 so seats can be procured. (See Meetup.) It is also possible to take a walking tour through Barley Barber Swamp this same day at 1:30 PM. You may want to  book this for yourself and your guest after lunch. Suggested donation is $10 each. More information on this guided walking tour can be found at http://treasuredlands.org/booking/

Tuesday, May 24 at 5:45pm: Movable Feast at Suri (no, that's not who answers when you talk to your iPhone; that's Siri), 707 Lake Ave., Lake Worth. One of my favorite places in downtown Lake Worth - good Happy Hour items and innovative "small plates" menu using fresh, locally raised ingredients. But it's not a "health place" - they've got a great bar as well as plenty of table space, including some outdoor tables. The valet parking station in the evening makes street parking a little scarcer, but there's still space on the side streets and the public lots. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or see Meetup.)
