Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Tuesday, Apr. 4, 6:00pm: Virtual Happy Hour--Come as You Are. As usual, BYOB and everything else, dressed for comfort on Zoom. There's no particular theme for conversation, just whatever comes up. Meeting ID: 858 0295 0276, Passcode: happy (Zoom link).I've been having a problem with my MeetUp account for the past couple of months, so for now RSVPs must go to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or at 561-352-9245. [Last minute: Now Meetup too!]

Thursday, Apr. 13, 6:00pm: Virtual Happy Hour to Discuss Books. This month's selection for the Zoom meeting is "The Measure: A Novel", by Nikki Erlick, suggested by Ed Wudjiak. It's an intriguing speculative novel that explores the desire to know - or not know - how long your life will be. One day, a small wooden box appears at the door of every person in the world; it contains a string that represents the number of years to come in your life. Do you wish to know how long you will live, or will you refrain from opening the box? The book follows a wide cast of characters through a year of interweaving fates and decisions. We'll also talk about some suggestions for future books - fiction and nonfiction - to read and discuss. Meeting ID: 858 0295 0276, Passcode: happy (Zoom link). My problem with MeetUp means that RSVPs must go to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or at 561-352-9245. [Now Meetup too!]

Sunday, Apr. 16, 5:30pm: THIRD Sunday Dinner at Iberia Bar and Grill, 3745 S. Military Trail, Greenacres, 561-829-2125 (http://www.iberiagrill.com/home.htmlm). Portuguese specialties! The most authentic of Portuguese dishes, Bacalhau Assado is a great way to please your taste buds for a real home style cooked cod-fish. A generous cut of bone in salted cod fish served with peppers and roast potatoes. RSVP on Meetup or elissa12@bellsouth.net or 561-703-9898 by March 11 at noon.

[Palm Beach]

Wednesday, Apr. 26, 5:30 pm: Happy Hour at Art Basil, 218 S. Ocean Blvd, Manalapan. Since my MeetUp connection wasn't working then, I'll try again for last month's listing for this long-favorite place near the beach at Ocean Avenue in Lantana. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and a nice mix of appetizers/bar bites, as well as heartier fare like lobster ravioli. There's parking in the Plaza del Mar parking lot. My MeetUp problem means that RSVPs must go to Amy Shaughnessy at aesdth@yahoo.com or at 561-352-9245. [Last minute add: Now Meetup too!]

Sunday, Apr. 30, 4:00 pm: CultureQuest XXXIV: Registration deadline was March 31, so I don't know yet if we're going to have a team (or two) in it, but this is when the competition to solve cultural literacy questions will take place.

Dates to be determined: Magnificent Mensa Scribes meets (varying dates, might be Thursday, might change again) online via Zoom (unless they go back to in-person meetings). Are you a writer or aspire to be one? Join Alice Silver and our Mensan Scribes to hone your skills and to learn about getting published. For info, go ask Alice at alicessss@aol.com.
