Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Tuesday, February 2 at noon: Lunch Bunch–Queen of Sheeba, 716 N. Sapodilla Avenue, West Palm Beach. South Florida's only Ethiopian restaurant, to the northwest of downtown WPB, about halfway between Banyan and Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. The menu includes such dishes as doro wot, a national favorite of stewed chicken with "robust spices" and lots of vegetable dishes, all served with injera, which is both bread and a scoop for the food. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or see Meetup.)

[Palm Beach]

Friday, February 5 at 7pm: First Friday Dinner, at Payathai Asian Bistro, 5879 South Congress Ave., Atlantis (Lantana, NW corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave.).  Orchids of Siam closed suddenly, and we are back at our old stomping ground. Thai food is different -- and can be spicy. Service is good and prices are reasonable. RSVP to Barry at 561-964-4360,  or through the Meetup.

[Palm Beach]

Sunday, February 7 at 5:30pm: First Sunday Dinner–Aladdin's Eatery (561-419-9466; http://www.aladdinseatery.com/), 21200 St. Andrews Blvd., Boca Raton. This Lebanese-American café, founded in 1994, serves healthy nutritious Middle Eastern food in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. There's the Mujadara Plate, a perfect vegetarian dish with rice and lentils, Crispy Falafel Patties, Lentil Soup, rolled pita sandwiches, and freshly squeezed natural juice drinks and smoothies. RSVP by noon February 6 to elissa12@bellsouth.net OR through the Palm Beach Mensa's Meetup site. Once reservations are made, seats go to those who RSVP'ed FIRST.

[Palm Beach]

Tuesday, February 16 at 6pm: Movable Feast–CobbleStone Grill, 10233 Okeechobee Blvd., Royal Palm Beach. Grand opening in January for new restaurant that has some good reviews, good prices - $15.95 prix fixe (correctly spelled!) menu until 6:30, so don't be late; and happy hour precedes. Mall-ish setting WAY out Okeechobee, I think in the big Target plaza, so plenty of parking. (RSVP Amy, aesdth@yahoo.com or see Meetup.)

[Palm Beach]

Friday, February 19 at 10am: Walk the Wakodahatchee Wetlands Boardwalk, 13026 Jog Rd., Delray. [organized by Broward Mensa] Lots of birds, turtles, and other wildlife to see, enjoy, and photograph from a 3/4 mile boardwalk; we'll stroll at a leisurely pace. We can go to lunch afterwards. Flakowitz? Let's see what our Palm Beach Mensa pals recommend. RSVP enjoyed, but not required. Maggie Rubin 954 234-1385. MargaretRubin@yahoo.com

[Broward]

Saturday, February 20 at 11am: ExComm meeting, at Clubhouse conference room, Lake Clarke Gardens, 2981 Florida Mango Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. Directions: Florida Mango Road runs west of I-95.  It is easily accessible from either 10th Avenue North on the south or Forest Hills Road on the north.  Take  either exit from I-95; go west until you reach Florida Mango Road.  There is a traffic light at the intersection at each end. On Forest Hills, turn left onto Florida Mango, go  south about 2.5 miles until you come to a well marked entrance to Lake Clarke Gardens on the right. On 10th Avenue, there is a large shopping center with a Presidente market on the northeast corner and a holding lane for those waiting to make a right turn.  Turn right, proceed right, over a small bridge, get in the left turn lane and you will see the Lake Clorke Gardens entrance there on you left. Everybody enter the complex, go past the intersection (no STOP sign there) and find a parking space on the left side.  There should be enough spots on the left but if necessary you can move into those spots facing west where it says "10 minute parking only."  It's Saturday, those are office spots, and nobody else will be using them. I'll be there with my cell phone, waiting for you, with my cell phone:   561-260-2124. Please RSVP.  Thank you.  mollyban@aol.com

Saturday, February 20 at 5pm: North County Dinner: North County: Let's Eat Again! White Tablecloth at Inn at Ocean Village, 2400 S Ocean Dr, 34949 (on Hutchinson Island), Fort Pierce. (theinnrestaurantatoceanvillage.com) Gather near the front door at 5 PM. In our eternal quest to find good food in the area, we are now trying a restaurant that we've neglected lo these many years, because it is closed on Sundays. Now we'll see what we've been missing.  One thing we should be guaranteed is a nice ocean view and an early bird special for $18.95.

[Palm Beach]

Sunday, February 21 at 4pm: Master Chorale of South Florida presents Broadway Legends at Wold Performing Arts Center at Lynn University in Boca Raton. Tickets $30 in advance or $35 at the door, students with ID $10 at the door. See www.masterchoraleofsouthflorida.org. (Meetup)
