Palm Beach Area Mensa Events

Friday, August 3, 7:00 pm. First Friday at Orchids of Siam Thai-Sushi Bar, 3027 Forest Hill Boulevard, West Palm Beach. In the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center at the NW corner of Forest Hill & Congress. http://www.orchidsofsiamfl.com/ RSVP to MeetUp or Barry at (561)964-4360.
Sunday, August 5, 5:30 pm: Palm Beach Area Monthly Dinner at The Capital Grille, Boca Town Center Mall, 6000 Glades Road Boca Raton, FL. Choose from critically acclaimed dry aged steaks, hand-carved and grilled to perfection, a variety of seafood flown in fresh from both shores and unique daily culinary offerings crafted with fresh, local, artisanal ingredients. An impressive array of creative side dishes await you, as do desserts that are, quite simply, the stuff of legends (who among us doesn't scream for house-made ice cream?). Description ripped straight from their website. RSVP by August 4. RSVP via Meetup or call 561-703-9898 or by emailing Elissa (elissa12@bellsouth.net).
Wednesday, August 8, 5:30 pm: Happy Hour. Lantana Jack's Bar and Grill, 308 N. Dixie Hwy., Lantana; 847-4158. A breezy-looking place I always meant to try when it was Lantana Ale House. Now it has "a Caribbean-tinged menu of American favorites." I don't yet know what their Happy Hour specials are, but they're sure to have them. Easy parking in their lot.
Sunday, August 12, 5 pm: Mensa Hamburger Review Board at Relish, 401 Northwood Road, West Palm Beach, 561-629-5377. RSVP to MeetUp. Build your own burger from a wide selection of burgers (including 2 vegetarian options: black bean and mushroom) and huge array of toppings, rich desserts and beverages. Leave your calorie counter at home this time.
Monday, August 13, Noon: Downtown Lunch Bunch at Malakor Thai Café, 425 25th Street, Northwood Village, West Palm Beach; 762-9070; Nouvelle Thai cuisine – salads like green papaya slaw – at a smallish cafe featured as "funky". Street parking available.
Sunday, August 19, 5:00 pm: North County Dinner -- Park Avenue BBQ & Grill of St Lucie West, 220 NW Peacock Blvd, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34986. Near St. Lucie West. (772) 873-0977. RSVP to Meetup. The end of summer is coming. In Florida, this can be great news. Whether you're glad or sad about it, we Mensans need to have one last barbecue to mark the event. So let's celebrate or grieve at one of our old faves.
Friday, August 28, 6:30 pm: Moveable Feast at Taverna Opa, 700 S. Rosemary Ave. #232, CityPlace, West Palm Beach; 820-0002. Outdoor bar and tables overlooking the fountain and plaza, indoor dining room done up like a countryside Greek tavern. Good food, large portions, friendly staff. Standard City Place parking.
