Your newly elected officers and their helpers are eager to infuse new life and excitement into this chapter, and we desire your help. Sadly Linn Bidwell has resigned as Membership Director so our greatest need at present is for a membership Director. If you would like to help in this area please contact me.
The distribution of out chapter's members is shown below. The cities have been grouped by local into four areas. Only the Northern and the Southern most groups currently have area coordinators. Coordinators are of special importance. They arrange activities in their region and send the details to the newsletter editor before the deadline for publication in the newsletter. Setting up meetings for general membership is not difficult; there is a guideline on the Mensa Website at: http://www.lists.us.mensa.org/mailman/listinfo/areacoordinators.
Your local officers and other area coordinators will be happy to assist.
The geographic distribution of our Palm Beach chapter's members is shown below. Please note that our chapter covers a large area, much larger than Palm beach County! The total membership of 350 can be divided into four geographic regions as follows:
South PBC Boca Raton -- 73; Boynton Beach -- 32; Delray Beach -- 29; Highland Beach -- 1; Loxahatchee -- 3; Naples -- 1. Total - 139

Our Newsletter currently caries the title "Palm Mensa." This is not representative of our chapter membership since it also includes large groups in Indian River and Martin Counties and a few members from Okeechobee, and one from Naples. I have listed other Florida chapter newsletter titles above.
I am initiating a competition open to all Chapter members to suggest a meaningful and inclusive name for our newsletter. As an example, I propose: "The Greater Palm Reader." Send your suggestions to the Editor (Ed Sorensen) who will publish them in the newsletter. After we have enough we will offer them for a membership vote to select the most appealing one. Please send in your suggestions to by 9/15/06 for publication in the October newsletter. Our members can then send in their votes for their favorite one in time (Nov 15th) for publication in the November newsletter.
In the May newsletter we published a survey questionnaire for members to fill out and return. So far two people have sent in their surveys, and we thank you both. We need to know what you want and what you can do and are willing to do. Please complete your surveys from May newsletter at website http://www.palmbeach.us.mensa.org/newsletter/200605nl.php and email a cut/pasted version to me.
--- Brian Johnson, LocSec
Webmaster's Note: A version of the survey that can be submitted online is also available here.

As you can see, our local group has been quite frugal. Looking forward, the newsletter expenses will increase due to the wonderful new format. Money well spent It appears that it will fit the budget after seeing the first mailing. On the other side, I am very interested in hearing anyone's comments about an electronic mail version of the newsletter for those who are interested only. Some benefits would be a more timely delivery and more room in the budget for other membership enhancing expenditures.

Give it a Try (we'll post the answers as the puzzles get a little more challenging ☺)
![[Image: Sudoku puzzle]](images/200608/sudoku.gif)
Sudoku (数独, sūdoku?), also known as Number Place, is a logic-based placement puzzle. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a numerical digit from 1 through 9 in each cell of a 9×9 grid made up of 3×3 subgrids (called "regions"), starting with various digits given in some cells (the "givens"); each row, column, and region must contain only one instance of each numeral. Completing the puzzle requires patience and logical ability. Although the puzzle was first published in a U.S. puzzle magazine in 1979, it initially caught on in Japan in 1986 and attained international popularity in 2005.

When you receive a new e-mail address, please send the address to Barry Karas as well as me, your editor. Rest assured that neither person will send your address to ANYONE except the national office of Mensa. And we will not send your address to the national office if you specify it.
We will also check your e-mail address -- if you request it.
We at PBC Mensa will use your e-mail address ONLY to send Mensa-related announcements (like the dinner/meeting announcements and this announcement) to you.
E-mail is now a very popular mode of communication. Junk e-mail is annoying, of course. We strive to eliminate or minimize junk e-mail.
Thanks, Barry Karas
