Palm-MensaPalm Beach County Mensa Newsletter

Just as I'm beginning, before I forget, I'd like to wish those persons to whom it applies, to have a happy holiday season.
This column will be short because I just spent a lot of time (and some money) fixing my new personal computer. It doesn't make any difference that I got a new, different type of computer... with an operating system three steps ahead of where I was. <grin>
For many of us it's gift giving time. The Mensa Boutique (1-800-MENSA4U, Web: www.mensaboutique.com) has many items that can be used as gifts.
Broward Mensa, out of Ft. Lauderdale is holding a regional gathering ("RG") over Memorial Day weekend 2005. Contact Robin Rhea if you are interested in attending: (954) 575-1639. Usually RGs in Florida are far away from us…this one's pretty close. You'll get to meet other Mensans (and be relatively close…distance-wise), have plenty of junk and good food, and even have a few surprises.
Colloquium 2005 in Tucson, AZ: "Earth in Mind: Fueling the Future" March 4-6, 2005. This colloquium should have stimulating insights and intellectual curiosity in/for renewable energy. If you're interested in going, please call me for details.
DUES TO INCREASE. Effective January 1, 2005, the annual dues will go from $49 to $52. This increase will be used to give the web site a members' directory and to increase bulletin board forums…and to increase our payment to the international organization. Again, please call me if you have any questions or comments.
Well, this column wasn't so short. Perhaps I'm a typical Mensan…I'm sort-of wordy.
Palm Beach County Mensa ended October with 333 members. We gained 8, brand new, renewing or moving into our area. Welcome or welcome back to: Randy Clark, Boynton Beach; Rich Clay, West Palm Beach; Martin Fierberg, Boca Raton; Charles Lockett, Lake Worth; Michelle Mercer, Lake Worth; Jared Siegrist, Lake Worth; Edward Sorensen III, Wellington; and Thomas Zarate, Boca Raton. Come on out to an event or organize one yourself. We'd like to meet you!
An Editor for this newsletter--receive news from the National Office, print member-related info, get it printed at Kinko's. Call Elissa if interested (561-496-0124).
A Membership Director to welcome new members and keep track of our numbers. Again, call Elissa if interested (561-496-0124).
Now that we're past hurricane season and election season-did our state get battered, or what?-it's time to start thinking about renewing your Mensa membership early. You can renew at the current amount, $49, until December 31. Then dues increase to $52 on January 1, 2005. You can renew online at http://www.us.mensa.org/, click on "renew now." How easy is that?
Over the next few months the Mensa website will be implemented with new features, some of which will be an online directory, threaded discussions, and personalized "My Mensa" pages. You'll need your member number and your password or PIN to access current services and new features after December 31. Visit the AML website or contact webservices@amercianmensa.org or call 817.607.0060, ext. 119 if you have not already received your PIN. You want to stay in touch with all things Mensa, don't you?
Meanwhile mark your calendar for these gatherings coming up. Hope to see you in Orlando at the AMC meeting! Have a wonderful December.
