WHAT WORD? There is a computing dictionary at <http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dzuul/glossary.htm>. While this dictionary is titularly for Dell computers, everyone should find it helpful.
ANTI-VIRUS. This IS NOT a computing newsletter. As many of you know I spend a lot of my time on a computer. Unfortunately, many computer viruses/worms/bad thingies are online now - and they are being sent in increasing numbers. ANYBODY (including people you know and trust) unknowingly could be transmitting bad thingies. (An excellent example of this are the "patches" that Microsoft is supposedly sending. Microsoft NEVER sends patches by e-mail. Any "patch" that you receive from Microsoft (or MS Corporation) is a FRAUD at best. (In fact, my anti-virus program caught the virus that accompanied the message that I was going to use as a reminder for doing this article.) Microsoft may announce a patch by e-mail. Go to its site (homepage: <www.microsoft.com>) to check it out.) Since most of you are online (on the Internet, etc.) you are susceptible to these bad thingies. It is VERY important for you to obtain and install an anti-virus program on your computer. (While anti-virus programs are not 100% effective, they are about 99.9% effective.)
You could be susceptible to the bad thingies even if you are offline. If you get disks and CD-ROMs, etc. from friends (kids do this a lot) that disk, etc. could be infected.
E-MAIL. I'm thinking again of putting this newsletter solely on the web (Internet). Your comments would be appreciated. My e-mail address is bkaras@NOSPAMmindspring.com (remove the "NOSPAM") and my telephone # is (561) 964-4360.
Note: The reason that there is the removable "NOSPAM" in my e- mail address is that there are robots ("bots") on the world wide web whose sole purpose is to harvest e-mail addresses for spamming purposes. Since this newsletter will appear on the web, I thought I'd take this precaution. Otherwise, I could get scads of junk e-mail.
October is the most intriguing and mysterious month with the neo- pagans among us marking Samhain, or All Hallows Eve, the end of the harvest. It seems that the more "civilized" we become, the farther away we stand from the natural rhythms of life, like how harvests, good or bad, would affect our lives. You certainly can't tell by what's available at your local Publix. If you would like to know more about Wicca and the Wiccan religion, come to FloRanGe: The Magic Owl RG hosted by Broward County Mensa later this month.
Also this month National Testing Day occurs on October 18. Eighty-nine groups have signed up to participate this year. Tell your smart friends to take advantage of many testing sites and join our organization.

Idiots in the workplace are just as hazardous to your health as cigarettes, caffeine or greasy food, according to researchers at Sweden’s Lindbergh University.
Hello to All,
I made several mistakes last month and omitted some things that had to be added for me. I must have lost my head someplace-in the emergency room at JFK, most likely. My son, Jon, had a motorcycle accident and you'd have thought it all was happening to me instead of to him. Thankfully, his arm was the only broken thing, and he's almost healed and ready to hit the golf course again.
My hair is a lot more gray than it was on August 20th!
Anyway, don't forget to watch for the Mensa Mini ads ("intelligent driving") in this month's BLENDER, MAXIM and METROPOLIS, in the October/November SURFACE, in the November issues of MOTOR TREND and WIRED, and in the December issues of EUROPEAN CAR, AUTOMOBILE and PLAYBOY.
Until next month...Kathy
P.S. Send contributions. This is your newsletter.
