FIRST FRIDAY at Payathai restaurant in the shopping mall/center at the northwest corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave. If you enter the shopping center from the Lantana Rd. entrance Payathai is about 10 stores down on the right. Saturday-Sunday, February 2-3. Mensa Outdoor - Tent Camping at the Pine Grove campsites in Jonathan Dickinson Park in Jupiter. OAK will supply Saturday night group dinner. The Park has excellent bicycling and hiking trails, and has canoeing and kayaking available at its concession stand. Pets on a leash are allowed. You can borrow a tent, mattresses, sleeping bags (have to be cleaned before being returned). Cost is $25.00 per paid Member, $30.00 per non-paid Member; kids <12 are1/2 price. Saturday, February 9. Mensa Outdoor - The Renaissance Festival at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. Opening Day. We go as a group, everyone does his own thing, and we meet for lunch, and then hang out together until we leave. We will try to get discount coupons if they are available. OAK has done this annually, had a great time, and enjoyed the shows, parades, tournaments, and food. Some of the shows are really funny, and the music is eclectic and good quality. Saturday, February 16, 7-9 pm. Novel writing Workshop, Delray Beach - If you've ever dreamed of writing a novel but don't know how to get started, mark this date on your calendar. You won't want to miss the free, two-hour workshop offered by Mensa titled "Yes, YOU Can Write a Novel." Led by Mensan Prudy Taylor Board, whose fourth novel, A Grave Injustice, was just released. The workshop will detail how to get organized, how to plan, The workshop is open to the general public and will be held in the Clubhouse of the Morningstar development off Atlantic Ave. and west of Military Trail (for exact directions contact Elissa, elissa12@bellsouth.net). Board, a Delray Beach resident who's had 18 books published, taught creative writing for 20+ years on the "other" coast and has been a presenter at writers' conferences throughout the United States and Canada. She will base the workshop on her own book "101 Tips on Writing and Selling Your First Novel" which grew out of her own experiences in writing and publishing. A hands-on workshop, there will be handouts and a drawing for a free critique of a novel in progress. Following a Q and A session, light refreshments will be served and Board's books will be available for purchase and autographing. |

Saturday, February 23, 3 pm. Fourth Saturday Fun - Young Mensan Activities - FAMILY EVENT -- Old-fashioned backyard barbecue at the home of new member Heidi Colston in Plantation. Come at 3:00 PM and stay into the evening to roast marshmallows and make s'mores. Hotdogs and accoutrements will be provided, as well as a few munchies. Bring a dish to share and the meat of your choice if you do not want hotdogs. PARENTS - this is an opportunity for you to sit and chat while the kids enjoy the swing set, and other yard games. Sunday, February 24. Mensa Outdoor - Morikami Gardens in Delray Beach and the Hatsumi (Spring) Festival. The Drummers, booths, various gardens, museum all contribute to a really lovely day and experience. We've gone there annually for the past five years, and each year gets better.
