Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

	Saturday, September 8, 7:00 pm. Monthly Party. If you've been there, you know the people. If you haven't, come and meet some very nice folks. 	Friday, September 14, 1:15 pm. BULLsig North: Galanga's Thai Restaurant, 2389 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manor. This place is rated three-star. Great food. While it's called a Thai restaurant, it has a very good Japanese menu as well. Call Jackie Proudfoot, 954-920-3602.
	Sunday, September 16, 11:30 am. BRUNCH at Lester's Diner (North), at 11:30 am. A Ft. Lauderdale tradition since 1967, Lester's is the home of the 14 oz cup of coffee and some of the biggest homemade desserts you have ever seen. A true diner, Lester's has an extensive menu. Everything from breakfast to dinner, with hamburgers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and great Greek food in between. Located on the north side of the street, just east of 441 at 4701 Coconut Creek Pkwy in Margate. We will meet in the back room, the room with a view. RSVP to Micki Hawn at 954-345-1688.
	Sunday, September 16, 10 am. Snorkel from a boat off Fort Lauderdale. We go out from just south of Las Olas Boulevard from Seabreeze Boulevard (A1A) to about a half mile off the Fort Lauderdale beach. Trip takes about a half-hour to get there. We spend about an hour in the water, and return. Boat leaves around 10 am, a very civilized hour. The two times we've done this trip we wound up in a huge school of fish about 12-15" long, which seemed not to be affected by our presence. Wonderful!! Cost of $37 Members, $42 Non-Members includes snorkel gear if you wish. No discount if you bring your own gear. Contact Jordan London, 954-961-8286.
	Sunday, September 23, 5 pm. Our five-mile walk on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. This is the last month for a five o'clock starting time; next month we go back to the 9 am time. Dinner after the walk, probably on the Broadwalk at one of the local restaurants. Contract Ruby Allman, 954-961-7334.
	Friday, September 28, 1:15 pm. BULLsig West: Quarterdeck Restaurant, 315 University Dr., Ft. Lauderdale. The swings are gone but it still has pleasant outdoor seating, a cool oasis these hot summer days. Call Jackie Proudfoot, 954-920-3602.
	Saturday, September 29, 10 am. Fourth Saturday Fun. Young Mensan Activities. Caravan to Lion Country Safari, Palm Beach. America's first drive-through cageless zoo, Lion Country Safari provides a habitat in which many endangered or threatened species live and reproduce. Lion Country Safari is 10 miles west of the FL Turnpike on Southern Blvd. (exit 97). Admission includes both the drive-thru Preserve and Safari World which includes an Animal Theatre, Carousel, Lory Bird Encounter, Mini-Golf, Paddle Boats, Petting Zoo, Safari Queen Boat Ride, El Paso Train Ride, Bulwagi Flying Elephant Ride and Hedge Maze. Adult admission: $20.95. Children (ages 3 through 9): $16.95. Parking (per vehicle): $3.50. With a group of 10 or more we can get a special rate of $9.00 per person. 	Saturday, October 20, 10:00 am. Mensa Testing Session -- Florida Atlantic University. October 20 is National Testing Day all over the U.S. There will be a big push in the national media to encourage smart people to take the Mensa challenge. If you know anyone who wants to take the Mensa Admission Tests, contact Elissa at elissa12@bellsouth.net.
