Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

	Friday, August 1: FIRST FRIDAY at Payathai in Lantana, 7:00 pm. It is in a shopping center on the NW corner of Lantana Rd. and Congress Ave. When you enter from Lantana Rd. take a right. 	August 9-13. The SCUBA SIG of American Mensa invites Mensa members worldwide to join us for 3 or 4 (or even 7!) days of CUBA diving the beautiful Caribbean island of Cozumel. Snorkelers and beach- sitters welcome, too! Arrive early for extra diving. 	Tuesday, August 12. ELECTRONIC TRIVIA NORTH meets, as always, at Rickey's, 4645 Hollywood Blvd. Exit I-95 at Hollywood Blvd. and go west to 48th Ave. Park in back. We meet at 5:30 p.m. since there are some good games early, but if you can't make it early, come when you can. Pretty good food, very good trivia. Smoking where permitted.

	August 14-18. Wet Wild Waterski Weekend. Join athletic Mensans of the Club Med SIG for a lo-o-ong weekend (or a whole week) of waterskiing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling, French food, and more SCUBA diving (Los Cenotes!). 	Friday, August 15: M-DINING ADVENTURE at McCarthy's Restaurant and Pub, 187 Tequesta Dr., in Tequesta (off U.S. Rt. 1, 2 miles north of Indiantown Road in Jupiter), 561-744-2383, 7:00 pm SHARP! Casual dining, English-pub themed restaurant with entrée prices starting at $13. Traditional pot pies are a specialty. Family-owned and operated, McCarthy's stresses the host-guest relationship. 	Sunday, August 17: SUNDAY BRUNCH at the Galley Grille 10:00 am. Letąs try this Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant again. 	Sunday, August 17. BICYCLE THE LOCAL STREETS OF DAVIE, where there is very little traffic and a lot of history and pleasant pedaling. This trip has been well-scoped, and should be easy- going and laid-back. We'll have lunch at a local restaurant afterward, place TBD. Nominal cost of $3.00 per member. 	Saturday, August 23. KAYAK THE INTRACOASTAL TO PELICAN HARBOR ISLAND in Biscayne Bay in rented kayaks. A strenuous trip along the Intracoastal in Dade, leaving from south end of Oleta River State Park. At Pelican Island, an OAK-supplied picnic lunch, and then head on back. Time about 2 1/2 hours each way, total of 5 hours paddling. Many first-timers have done well with this trip. Cost including picnic lunch, kayaks, accessories, and if necessary lessons. $40.00 per member. Details, contact Jordan London, 954-961-8286.
