Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events
March, 2003

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

Saturday, March 1st. COME TO THE LOC SEC'S BIRTHDAY PARTY at the home of Phil Hales and Barbara Moore. Featuring a look back at Mensa in the 20th Century. Come see old pictures and videos plus the chance to see the tape of Ann Carter on Jeopardy! There will be a light supper and of course birthday cake. RSVP to 954-752-8483.

Sunday, March 2nd. THE BOOK IS WRITTEN. NOW HOW DO I SELL IT? Morningstar Clubhouse, Delray Beach-- 2 to 5 pm. Prudy Taylor Board, author of several fiction & nonfiction books, leads a discussion on what to do after your great work is finished. So you've written the world's greatest novel. It's sitting there on your desk. All done and lookin' so fine. Now what? How do you figure out where to send it? How do you physically send it? Can you get an agent? If you can, should you? Attend this creative workshop and ask your questions. Prudy will also read a short section from the novel she's currently working on...Dishonored Grave. Thursday, March 6th. DISCUSSION SIG at the home of Roy Fischler at 8:00 pm. Discuss politics, science, art, etc., in depth. Topics to be decided at each meeting. Snacks and drinks provided. RSVP to 954-578-8273.

Saturday, March 8th. MENSA OUTDOOR SIG - A Walk along the Beach in Hollywood. Walk the Broadwalk at a leisurely pace and have breakfast afterward at one of the beachfront cafes. Start at 9:00 a.m., finish about 10:30 or 11:00 a.m.. The weather is usually delightful this time of year for an easy walk. RSVP to Ruby or Jordan, 954-961-7334 or 954-961-8286.

Saturday, March 8th. PARTY AT RUBY AND JORDAN'S in Hollywood. 7:00 pm. Lots of nice people, good conversation, delicious food, indoor/outdoor. Sunday, March 9th. COMBINED OAK OUTING AND MENSA OUTDOOR SIG - 10:30 am. Bicycle the Loop Trail in the big Cypress Preserve on the Tamiami trail in southern Miami. Approximately 8 miles each way. Lunch afterward at a restaurant along the way returning home. RSVP to 954-961-8286 or 954-961-7334.

Tuesday, March 11th. ELECTRONIC TRIVIA 6:00 pm. Rickey's, 4645 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood. Burger and sandwich menu, specializing in wings, huge salads, and other items. Exit I-95 at Hollywood Blvd., go west to 48th and turn right. Parking lot in back. We meet at 6 pm. to eat and warm up... You can come any time and still get in on any game. Miami Mensa.

Sunday, March 16th. MENSA OUTDOOR SIG. Bicycle Coral Gables. An easy bicycle ride in the beautiful and historic city of Coral Gables, and a tour of the Biltmore Hotel afterward. Sunday, March 23rd. DADE & BROWARD MENSA PICNIC 11:00 am: Come one, come all --- The weather is perfect for a joint Dade & Broward Mensa Picnic to welcome Spring, at Topeekeegee Yugnee ("T-Y") Park, in Hollywood, at Sheridan St. & North Park Road (just west of I-95). Bring bread to feed the 30+ white ibises & assorted ducks, seeds to feed the squirrels. Bring the kids to play at the playground or swim at Castaway Is., the water park. Walk or bike the 2-mile course, play volleyball, tennis, or basketball, or bring a board game to play. Bring your own lunchmeat to barbecue (charcoal & lighter fluid will be provided), drinks, and one extra dish for all to share. Phone Judy Ford to coordinate the extra dishes, & for info, 954-961-6926. Charge: $1 per person to get into the park. Judy will get there an hour early to grab some picnic tables & grills.
